A win, but still end up bottom of the league!

You might be surprised to read, but yes we won on Saturday.

So how did we end up bottom of the league?

Well our victory came in the cup and all the other bottom teams in the league won. Silhill, who we beat first game of the season and had not won a game until last week have now won two on the bounce. AG Athletic who were bottom with nil points hammered Old Wulfs 5-1 lifting them above us on goal difference.

But better concentrate on the postives which was the 2-0 win over higher opposition. Walsall Pheonix B ply their trade in division 3 and are currently lower mid table with 2 wins from 5 games.

Whilst we tried to play the passing game in the first half, we were against the wind and the front two could not get hold of the ball and keep it up in Walsall’s half. Therefore most of the game was played in our half. But saying that Walsall actually only created one chance. We went to sleep for our obligatory 10 seconds and they were in. Luckily, pressure from Chalmers meant, the forward shot wide from only 6 yards. So our luck had changed, for once we did not get punished from one of our mistakes.

Second half we were much the better side. The wind actually died down, but without it buffering us back we were able to get the ball into the oppositions half and keep it up there. JP snaffled his sixth goal of the season poaching a shot from Ashton that had beaten the keeper. The match was sown up when Ashton collected the ball on the half way line, beat his defended, ran into the penalty area, rounded the keeper and after far too many touches finally put the ball into the net. We also hit the post and had two other great chances whilst Walsall only forced one save from Goughie.

Back to the league next week and another away game. We just need to translate this weeks form into the league and into some badly needed points.

PS The 1st team lost. 2-0.
