The team

The team that I manage is the 2nd XI of Parkfield Amateur FC. As the name indicates, we are a totally amateur football club based in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, UK (That is about 10 miles north east of Birmingham, UK just in case I have any international readers - as if!). The club is only a small one currently comprising of 4 teams. The 1st XI, the 2nd XI (which as I said, for my sins, I manage), the over 35 vets, and the boys (under 12’s) team.

In 2007-08, the boys team (who were only formed at the start of the season) put the rest of the club to shame by winning their league in the Central Warwickshire Youth u-12 League. The over 35 vets team plays in the Central Warwickshire Vets League whereas the 1st XI and 2nd XI play on a saturday afternoon in the Birmingham AFA league.

The club has a long checkered history -it was formed in 1926 – but I just dont know any of it! Not suprisingly I have not been around anywhere as near as the club (my parents werent even born in 1926). I was introduced to the club in the summer of 2002 and made my first appearance in the 2002-03 season.  I think I am going to have to make an effort to see if I can learn some of the history (one to come back to).

We have our own ground (well leased from Birmingham City Council) and when I say ground, I literally mean a pitch (that needs a lot of work) and a small clubhouse (which also needs a fair amount of work) but it is more than a lot of teams that play in the AFA league.

If you are really, really interested, you could always check out the club’s website at www.parkfieldafc.co.uk
